000069440 5203_ $$aLa presencia masiva de mujeres en los flujos migratorios a nivel internacional ha puesto la atención sobre sus implicaciones sociales en el ámbito de la familia, considerando de manera especial los arreglos domésticos y la organización de la crianza y del cuidado infantil como los ámbitos con mayor impacto. El objetivo central de este artículo es identificar las estrategias individuales que un grupo de madres guatemaltecas migrantes residentes en Madrid ponen en marcha para mantener los vínculos afectivos en la distancia y seguir estando presentes en el desarrollo de sus hijos que se han quedado en los hogares de origen. Este objetivo se enmarca en mi tesis doctoral que persiguió examinar las prácticas de cuidado que las mujeres inmigrantes desarrollan en sintonía o en contraposición con el concepto convencional de maternidad. A través de un acercamiento metodológico cualitativo articulado en entrevistas en profundidad, observación participante e historias de vida realizadas a 35 guatemaltecas en Madrid, logro evidenciar que las prácticas afectivas que estas madres establecen desde la distancia son posibles a partir de la configuración de una estructura de cuidado que se desarrolla tanto desde la distancia como también en los mismos hogares de origen, y que funciona principalmente mediante la activación de formas de estrechas reciprocidad y solidaridad familiar. The massive presence of women in the flows of immigration on an international level has brought about special attention to the social implications on families with a special emphasis on domestic restructuring, child rearing and infant care, which are some of the most impacted areas. The main objective of this article is to identify the individual strategies that a group of Guatemalan immigrant women, who live in Madrid, are putting into practice in order to maintain affective connections from a distance and continue to be present in the child rearing of their children who have stayed behind in their countries of origin. This objective is part of my doctoral thesis which sought to examine the caretaking practices of immigrant women and to see how they compare or contrast with the conventional concepts of motherhood. Through a reconcilable qualitative method, articulated by thorough interviews, participant observation and the life stories of 35 women, I have been able to identify that the affective practices that these mothers establish from a distance are possible. They establish a caretaking structure that takes place from a distance as well as in their own homes in their countries and that this functions mainly by activating strong reciprocity and family solidarity. The results obtained in the analysis indicate that empowerment has a positive impact on people with functional diversity because it encourages them to participate in society and help construct citizenship, as demonstrated by the participants in the research carried out in Valencia. This favours integration, personal autonomy, freedom of choice and social relationships as a part of human development.
